I still can’t believe my baby is one. When did that happen? Part of me barely remembers life without him, but on the other hand, I feel like I just left the delivery room.
To celebrate this huge milestone, I knew I wanted a birthday party theme that was interactive and allowed the kids to have a fun experience. I always say, engaged kids are happy, well-behaved kids! What better theme than art? We set up an art tent with paints and paper so Wyatt’s friends and cousins could create their masterpieces.
One of my favorite parts of the party was the menu cards. Each item on the menu went along with a famous artist such as Mary Cassat’s Cupcakes and Frida Kahlo’s Fruit Platter…putting those college art history classes to good use! For the menu, we had a cookout and everyone volunteered to bring a side they are known. It was really fun to bring everyone together to experience the food.
I was so excited to find Funky Flamingo Boutique (Esty shop), located right here in central CT, to custom make Wyatt’s birthday shirt. Every time I go to Babies R Us, I see an entire section of birthday shirts…but of course at the time of Wyatt’s birthday, there was only one shirt in stock! In a panic, I had posted a request on the local Facebook sell & swap page to see if anyone had the ability to make him a shirt with only a few days’ turn around time. Funky Flamingo responded to my post and custom made this adorable shirt with purely her own creative ideas! I was so happy with how it came out and how accomodating she was when I was on a time crunch. (Sorry for the crummy iPhone snap – Mr. Birthday Boy was hopped up on cupcake sugar and couldn’t sit still!)
How gorgeous are these cupcakes made by my mom?! We displayed the cupcakes on a treat stand from Oriental Trading (we simply removed the treat cones.)
Wyatt enjoyed his first cupcake with a traditional stripped down cupcake smash. What a face!
Another great Esty find where these artist-themed photo booth props from The Party Girl Studio! I paid extra to have them precut and already on the sticks. She used high quality cardstock so they were nice and sturdy. The designer was very responsive to messages and rushed the shipment for no additional fee. I made a siply paper chain backdrop with construction paper and a clothes rack.
I made a few crayon vases using some Dollar Store glass containers, a hot glue gun, and Crayola crayons (the 24 packs were on sale for 50 cents a pack at Walmart!)
I still cannot believe it is all over, but I am already scheming for next year! Mom life is the best life in my book…always something to get excited about.
