We wrapped up our second week of our Pirate Week curriculum with these tape resist painting pirate flags! This is a really neat concept for a wide range of age groups…the painters’ tape is placed in whatever pattern you want (in this case we did each child’s initial and a crossbones design.) We practiced early letter recognition, fine motor skills, following simple directions, and hand-eye coordination.
My little guy can’t decided if he is left or right handed!
These no spill paint cups and chubby paint brushes from Lakeshore are the best! I originally got them for Wyatt’s art-themed first birthday party and have gotten so much use of them since.
Rather than use scissors to cut the ends of the painters’ tape perfectly, I purposely left the ends a little jagged to enhance the pirate feel.
We practiced sharing too! A few of the girls partnered up to help each other…
After we left the pirate flags to dry, we were ready to peel back the painter’s tape to reveal our initials and crossbones designs!
