Can you believe the 18 month clothes he was JUST wearing are already getting pretty geeky-chic – tight and too short?! Stop growing!
At 18 months he is most happy when…
he is eating, getting in an episode of Curious George, doing something outside with daddy, or wearing a hat (while squaking HAT!!)
He does not like…
He is not a fan of going in his high chair lately, especially at dinner when he is starting to get tired.
How is he with other children?
I love watching him form his little friendships. Wyatt LOVES all of his baby cousins and showers them with kisses. Since the weather has been kind of all over the place, we haven’t played outside a ton but he creates little indoor games with the older kids. It is so cool how they all find ways to communicate and crack each other up.
What is his relationship with the pets?
Although I am pretty sure Cabo stills sees Wyatt as an easy snacking source (hello sticky fingers!), she has been more and more cuddly and patient with him. Perhaps she feels closer to him with the new baby coming. Bengal makes it a point to visit the playroom, lay in the sun, and just let Wyatt and his little friends paw all over him. He’s turned into such an attention lush with the kids.
What is the sweetest thing he does?
The other night Ev said “thank mama for this delicious dinner” and Wyatt planted a big kiss on my lips. He gives tons of random, unsolicited kisses throughout the day.
Any behavior issues?
Sharing is still a struggle sometimes. We are working on it!
What are the mornings like?
Little by little, they are getting better. Morning nursing sessions were the last to go, and he heavily relied on his paci once he weaned. I was pretty nervous about the mornings once the paci was out of the picture, but he is doing amazingly well. We started a new routine where he gets a fruit pouch or smoothie with his morning milk cup and he gets to hang out in the kitchen to “help” me make breakfast. He loves participating so I explain every step and every ingredient while I put together eggs and whatever else we are having.
How is he sleeping?
Amazingly, he seems much more independent and sure of himself going to sleep, especially at nap, since giving up the pacifier. He still has rocky nights where he whimpers in his sleep (teething purhaps) but overall he is in his crib between 7-7:30 and wakes around the same time the following morning. We are still mostly cosleeping once we go to bed at night, but I am thinking of transitioning him to his bed over the holidays as we prepare for little brother.
Any big milestones?
On 12/6 I forgot his “wubby” (Wubbanub pacifier) on the kitchen counter…all day. He never whimpered for it and we made it through nap, bedtime, and the following morning into nap again, and so on. Ev and I had planned on weaning Wyatt over the holiday week when he was off from work and could help support the potential rough time, but this couldn’t have worked out better! 2.5 weeks and still going strong.
How is communicating going?
Since he self-weaned from his paci, he has been chatting up a storm! He understands so much. We are super excited to see what the next few months bring. His favorite words are mama, hat, nee nee (kitty), pup pup, dis (what’s this) and hi.
Any changes in eating?
We are on a big yogurt kick. His favorite apples and string cheese are so last month now. My turkey pesto meatballs are a fave at the moment.
Who is he more like right now?
He wants to be just like daddy.
He loves to take off his pants and run around the playroom any chance he gets. I am just waiting for the first time he does this in public but luckily he is usually in his stroller. I just picture him streaking through Nordstrom with his diaper buns out.
